Berkley Sides with Environmentalists over Jobs in Nevada
June 19, 2012
(Las Vegas, NV) – Today, Shelley Berkley cast yet another vote against jobs in Nevada, choosing to follow the interests of the environmental lobby rather than creating hundreds of jobs.
“Shelley Berkley needs to explain why she sided with environmental groups over northern Nevada. Instead of supporting legislation that would have created jobs in Yerington, she chose to side with the League of Conservation Voters. This is typical Shelley Berkley, saying one thing and then doing another. Today she cast another vote in a long string of votes where she stubbornly refused to acknowledge that people in Nevada are actually hurting. The seven-term Congresswoman needs to understand that jobs – not Nancy Pelosi, not the party-line and not environmental extremists — need to be the top priority,” said Chandler Smith, Heller for Senate spokeswoman.
Before today’s vote, all of the Nevada delegation House members signed onto the bill. Senator Heller is the sponsor of the Senate companion bill.
The Yerington Land Conveyance and Sustainable Development Act would have enabled the City of Yerington and Nevada Copper to develop over 10,000 acres of land for the Nevada Copper Pumpkin Hollow project. This would have created nearly 800 jobs at full capacity.
