Energy Independence

Attention: open in a new window. PrintE-mail

Dean believes that our nation needs a forward-thinking energy strategy that meets our short- and long-term energy needs through conservation, encouraging renewable energy and developing our own natural resources. This strategy should end our dependence on foreign oil and put the United States on the path to long-term energy security.

Nevada has an incredible opportunity to lead the country in renewable energy development. For this reason, Dean authored legislation to promote the development of solar, geothermal and wind energy on federal lands in Nevada.

Dean rejects the cap-and-trade proposal that creates a national sales tax on energy costing Americans as much as $3 trillion. This new energy tax will affect every American family, costing a family of four in Nevada nearly $3,200 more a year in electricity costs alone.

Dean believes that energy costs should be kept low while working towards innovations in clean-coal technology and getting a more renewable energy generation up and running.
