Congressman Heller discussed how the so-called stimulus bill failed Nevada yesterday on the floor of the House of Representatives:

"Despite the promises from this administration that the stimulus bill would cap unemployment at 8%, we are seeing across this nation numbers much higher than that. We continue to see Nevada unemployment grow from 10%, 11%, 12% and now 14.2%. The stimulus was supposed to be an immediate jolt. Clearly, it didn't happen."

Author, revolutionary, and one of our nation's Founding Fathers, Thomas Paine once said "When a government is just, taxes are few." Paine warned of largess in government and excessive taxes. In 2007, more than 200 years later, Americans surrendered nearly 30% of their income to federal and state governments. I would venture this tax rate is not what Paine and many of the Founding Fathers had in mind.

Last night, Congressman Heller discussed health care issues with 130 Nevadans last night at a town hall hosted by the Republican Jewish Coalition in Reno.

Dean believes that key health care reforms need to be made, but that he doesn't support the government-run plan proposed by the Obama administration and congressional Democrats.

Today, health care coverage is unattainable for many American families. About 182 million Americans currently receive some form of employer-sponsored health care. With so many affected, Congress should ensure that any changes protect those already with medical coverage. If you like your coverage, you should be able to keep it -- not be forced into a "one size fits all" government program.
