Congressman Heller introduced legislation last week requiring members of Congress to join any government-run health care plan created by Congress:
Rep. Dean Heller, R-Nev., told colleagues Thursday that members of Congress should be required to join any federal public health benefits plan created by Congress.
"I do not believe the federal government should be running health care in our country and levying massive tax increases on America's small businesses," said Heller in urging support for an amendment to the proposed plan. "However, if this administration and the majority party are going to force government-run health care on the American people, then members of Congress should be required to enroll in that plan.
"If the government-run 'public plan' is good enough for millions of our constituents, then it should be good enough for members of Congress," he said.
Democrats on the House Ways and Means Committee rejected Dean's amendment to their health care bill.

Things that encourage more general practice doctors and pediatricians to be open later hours and on weekends to drop the demand for high cost emergency room visits.
Or like this article points out... http://www.reuters.com/article...RN20090319 the cost savings in simply TALKING to patients about what they want for end-of-life treatment saves $40k per patient.
How about requiring that patients who are given a terminal diagnosis receive some kind of counseling within 30 days of diagnosis that allows them to talk about their end-of-life wishes with a licensed person (w/legal witnessing authority). No more multi-million dollar Terri Shiavo cases on the taxpayers dime!!
"Patient care at the Florida hos**ce where Schiavo lives averages about $80,000 a year, but the hos**ce now pays for much of her care. For two years, Medicaid has covered other medical costs, including prescription drugs, the attorneys have said in published reports."

Please work WITH healthcare reform to make it a good solid cost savings over the long haul. Heavens knows we need it!
